House Washing (Soft Wash) FAQs
-
Soft washing uses low-pressure water combined with cleaning detergents to remove dirt, algae, mildew, and other buildup from exterior surfaces. Unlike high-pressure washing, soft washing relies on the cleaning solution and gentle water pressure to clean the surface while helping reduce the risk of damage.
We do receive requests for pressure-only siding cleaning. We generally do not recommend this approach because siding manufacturers may have specific cleaning requirements, and excessive pressure can potentially damage siding or its finish.Follow the siding manufacturer's cleaning recommendations: Vinyl, aluminum, and painted siding can have specific care instructions. We recommend checking the manufacturer's guidelines for the appropriate cleaning method for your siding.
Pressure requirements can vary: Some siding manufacturers allow pressure washing under specific conditions. If you know your siding manufacturer, we can help you find and review its cleaning recommendations.
Properly diluted detergents: When used according to the product's instructions and properly managed during the cleaning process, detergents are a standard part of professional soft-washing practices. We take appropriate precautions to protect surrounding landscaping and property and thoroughly rinse surfaces after cleaning.

A house wash includes:
Siding, trim, exterior fixtures, windows, doors, garage doors, and the ceilings and rails of front porches and porticos.
The exterior surfaces of gutters and downspouts.
Spot cleaning of first-level brick façades.
A house wash does not include:
Decks, walkways, patios, fences, foundations, roofs, or discoloration on brick chimneys. These surfaces may require separate cleaning or specialized services.
-
What a house wash can remove:
Organic buildup such as mold, mildew, algae, and moss.
Dirt, dust, pollen, and general exterior debris
Spider webs and bird droppings
What may not come off completely with a house wash:
Tiger striping: Light gray or dark vertical streaks on gutters may remain because they can be caused by oxidation and other staining that requires specialized treatment.
Corrosion or oxidation: Corrosion and oxidation on aluminum siding may not be completely removable with a standard house wash.
Rust and red clay stains: These stains may require specialized stain-removal methods rather than a standard house wash.
Adhesive or bonded materials: Substances such as caulk, paint, and some forms of artillery fungus may not be removed by a standard house wash.
Wasp nests and carpenter bee droppings: These may only be partially removed depending on the condition and how strongly they are adhered to the surface.
A house wash can significantly improve the appearance of exterior surfaces, but results vary depending on the type, age, and severity of the staining or buildup.

Here are a few simple steps to help prepare your property for a house wash:
Move vehicles away from the house: Please move vehicles at least 15 feet away from the exterior of your home before we arrive.
Provide access to a working water spigot: We need access to a functioning water spigot, preferably near the front of your home.
Clean up after pets: If you have dogs, please make sure the yard is picked up within 15 feet of the home before the service.
Move small items away from the house: Please move small potted plants, wind chimes, and other fragile or easily movable items to a safe location so our technicians can work efficiently around your home.
